Strengths:
Whaley's pro body and emerging stuff have put him on scouts' radar. At 6-foot-3, Whaley has good size and strong mechanics. He throws a high 80s fastball that has room to grow, which he pairs with a good changeup and decent slurve.

Weaknesses:
Like many high school pitchers, Whaley would stand to improve his command. His stuff isn't yet comparable to the elite high school pitchers in the draft.

The Future:
How high Whaley gets drafted depends on how patient a team wants to be with him. Whaley could be a beast after three years at Miami; when he gets stronger, his fastball velocity should sit in the low 90s. He could get plucked as high as the tenth round in 2009.
