Glossary

Honors:

  • 2008 ACC Pitcher of the Year

Strengths:
White has a strong arsenal of pitches, starting with a fastball that tops out at 94 mph with sink. He also throws a slider that shows flashes of promise. He’s got an ideal pitcher’s body and lots of athleticism (he was a basketball star in high school).

Weaknesses:
White doesn’t have the present stuff of Stephen Strasburg (#1) or the uber-projectability of Kyle Gibson (#4). He’ll have to improve his slider and changeup to be a starting pitcher in the big leagues. White's '09 performance had been underwhelming until he dominated Miami in mid April.

The Future:
Alex White's performance against Miami puts him back on the map in the fight to be the next college pitcher drafted behind Strasburg. He's a lock for the first round.
